Week 30: 4 For 5 (last week 😩)

Monday , May 5, 2025    9:46am

Hello, everybody. I know you were all extremely worried, but fear not; my bike has been repaired and I am once again flying down the sidewalks sounding the gospel in every ear.

Last Monday, we had some pretty wild p-day activities thanks to Hermana McMullin. We sat on balloons, ate donuts off of a string, and harshly judged our own companions. Then I spent a large chunk of time trying to remember how to read sheet music effectively.

We recived a referral from some other elders about a family that lives in our area, but went to watch a baptism in a different ward. We've been able to teach them all this week, and they're awesome! It's a single mom with three kids, and they all really want to be baptized! Unfortunately, the youngest is 7 years old. He is very sad. But they came to church yesterday, and they loved it! What an amazing family with incredible faith!

Our friend JesΓΊs did come to church this week, finally. His kid got hungry and grumpy, so they didn't stay the second hour, but he enjoyed sacrament meeting!

Wednesday was Zone Conference!
It was amazing, and we were all spiritually revived. It always helps to get another pep talk about how white and ready to harvest the field is, and to remind us we're not just here to thrust in our sickle, but to do it with all our heart, might, mind, and strength by being exactly obedient in all things. I recognized a few things I wanted to get better at.

A common theme among most of the conference was humility. Humility is a subject I've already studied a lot about, but I gained some insights that helped to broaden my perspective. It's true that every missionary in our mission could be less prideful, whether they are feeling puffed up by being in a leadership position, or they are blowing off constructive criticism and advice, but pride for me is a lot more personal.

While reading a freaking awesome talk by Ezra Taft Benson called 'Beware of Pride' from April 1989, I thought about the possibility of Pride being the root of all sin. All the sins I can think of at the moment require pride. Any disobedience says, "I know better than God," or, "It doesn't count as a sin for me," et cetera.

This I see is why Alma in Alma 5:28 asks, "Behold, are ye stripped of pride?" and warns, "I say unto you, if ye are not ye are not prepared to meet God. Behold ye must prepare quickly; for the kingdom of heaven is soon at hand, and such an one hath not eternal life." Unless we are stripped of our pride, and become humble and submissive to the will of God, we cannot have eternal life!

But if pride is the root of sin, then the opposite must be true as well- Humility is the foundation of a disciple of Christ. Laying down our weapons of war and rebellion is the only way we can become like Christ. Humility is a vital part of our path to eternal life! If we are not humble, neither will we be charitable.

I have loved trying to be humble. It has helped me to rejoice more with others, and be much happier! I know that if we are to be Christ's people, and establish Zion on earth, that starts with humility!

I invite you guys to read 'Beware of Pride' by Ezra Taft Benson from April 1989. Whether you want to change something after reading it or just say, "Ah, that was nice," and never think about it again is completely up to you. It would be really good to read it, though.

Also, check out these sick picsπŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡
