Week 13: Apóyame Con Algo de Comida

Monday, December 30, 2024  10:23pm

Hi. I really can't remember much that has happened since Wednesday. I know there was something I was like, "Heck yeah, I'll put that in my email," but I completely forgot what that was. Hopefully I remember because it's killing me.

We met super cool guy named Damion last week. He has 3 sons and a wife that are all unbaptized, so we were excited to be teaching them. When we first met the guy, he said he already had a church he goes to, but we talked to him a little bit and he said he'd be able to come to our church service since the time of his was far enough apart it'd work.

But anyways, this guy was super awesome, taking the lessons really well, participating in our discussions and everything. One time we came over, he was like, "Oh, hey guys, you just caught me in the middle of my Bible study." And then he shared the stuff about Christ's baptism he just read. We proceeded to talk to him more about baptism, reading more verses from the Book of Mormon about the importance of baptism. He mentioned that he'd already been baptized when he was younger (NOOOO), but then told us that it wasn't by immersion in the same way as Jesus Christ so he didn't think it was valid (YESSSS).

It even made sense to him when we explained Joseph Smith, he thought he was kinda like Moses. Exactly, Hermano! Oh, that made us so happy.

This guy was just super elect, and we were sure that once we baptized him, that his family would soon follow. Then he ruined our plans by not attending church this Sunday. Dang it. Obviously, we're not giving up on him, just not sure how we can help him to understand the importance of attending the uh, actual real church. Please pray for Damon's heart to be softened!

On the topic of church this week, none of the people we found last week or are currently teaching actually showed up. 😔 We did however, have 3 nonmembers present, which is the most we've had since I've got here. (??!???!) Yeah, I'm not super sure how that happened.

One of the nonmembers was a guy that's been to church a whole bunch of times, had all the lessons multiple times, wants to be baptized, but says he doesn't feel ready, and doesn't want to be pressured. He makes me sad, but I mean, I'm sure he'll be baptized sometime in the future.

The second guy at church was the dude that keeps asking us for money and food, and he doesn't seem very interested in talking to us after we told him we really didn't have money or food to give him. Maybe it's just me, but there's nothing I can see about two teenagers less than a year out of highschool who spend a majority of their time talking to people about Jesus Christ that screams, "We have a surplus of food and cash we are waiting to give you." I could be wrong, though.

The last dude we had at church was a guy who we've hardly ever talked to, only seen one other time when he came to church a couple weeks ago. We don't have any way to contact him right now, so not sure how we're gonna get him baptized. I don't know who keeps inviting him, but don't stop.

Today, I pretty much just ate a bunch of food like always, played soccer like always, hurt myself like always(gotta reapply the bruise on my knee for next week, yknow?), and spent some quality time with my dear, dear district of pure hermanas. I'm now prepared to preach the gospel once again.

Something was on my mind today. That something was the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Surprise. One of the things that makes Jesus Christ the coolest person to ever live is the fact that He didn't only suffer for our sins and die for us to take away the effects of sin and death, but He also took our pains upon Him too. Did He take away the effect of our pains? Nope. I can bare witness; I got kicked in a very sensitive place today while playing nine-square. But He took upon Him our pains so He could know "how to succor his people according to their infirmities." (Alma 7:12💖)

Holy cow, guys. Whatever that thing that I really wanted to say was, I still can't remember. Please email me or something, ask me questions because I'm not kidding, this is bothering me. If you help me remember, I'll try to send you a handwritten letter with how much I love you. (It's a lot)

I'll catch up with you guys next year! Wait, next year? I've been away from home for 3 months??! That's crazy...

Bye.
