Week 9: Primera Chamba

Monday, December 2, 2024   7:11pm

Last email was "Week 7," but it was actually my 8th week, just my 7th email. So, this is week 9.

It's already colder here than it ever gets back at home, I'm not a fan. It makes it very hard to contact people on the street; everyone is either inside, or at work also inside, so all of our freetime goes to door knocking. We've knocked almost every door in our area by now. Half of our area is taken up by warehouses, though.

A lot of our friends and contacts just keep asking us for money, job opportunities,  housing, and cars. Uh, I'm not sure what about teenage guys that left their homes to talk to people about Jesus exactly screams 'rich.' We can't exactly help you with that. We can, however, invite you to church and promise blessings both spiritual and temporal as you keep the commandments of God! 😃

This one guy we talked to (in English) gave us a bunch of papers with stories he typed up about miracles from his mission, and then proceeded to advertise his 'probiotic maker' that we could buy online. Again, we don't have money. That was one of the weirdest interactions I've ever had.

We had a baptism this past Saturday November 30th! Our friend has a lot of faith and is very strong in the spirit. She's been able to have amazing experiences with the Book of Mormon. Every time she's read with a question in mind, she would open it and the first verse she would read would have the answer.

Also, my own baptism was Nov 30th 10 years ago. I got to have the first baptism on my mission exactly 10 years after my own!

One thing that I actually was reminded of from our encounter with the probiotic machine guy is taught in Moroni 9:9-10:

9 For do we not read that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and in him there is no variableness neither shadow of changing?
10 And now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a god who doth vary, and in whom there is shadow of changing, then have ye imagined up unto yourselves a god who is not a God of miracles.

I love the fact that because God is perfect, He doesn't change. We read in the scriptures of all kinds of miracles brought about by the faith and diligence of God's children. If they saw miracles, why shouldn't we? I know that God is, was, and always will be a God of miracles, and that if we are obedient, faithful, and expect and look for miracles, we will see them.

Love you guys!
